THIS FRIDAY’s EPISODE, MI REGAL FAMILIA:
Hola, we’re keeping it reaaaaaal today.
Presenting:
YOU’RE NOT LAZY. YOU’RE JUST WORKING AGAINST YOURSELF.
There’s this moment where you’re staring at your laptop, tabs open, to-do list blinking, social post content waiting to be written and staring at you like a middle finger.
And still… you just… can’t.
You’re not lazy.
You’re just misaligned with how your brain actually wants to work.
We’ve been taught to push harder when we get stuck.
But the truth is, pushing harder doesn’t fix burnout.
It just hides it for a while.
If you’re running on empty or stuck in a weird funk, try this instead:
1. MAKE IT SMALLER (THEN SMALLER AGAIN)
That task you’re avoiding?
It’s probably too big.
Even if it doesn’t look big on paper.
→ “Write proposal” feels heavy.
Try: Make a 3-bullet outline. That’s it.
→ “Clean the apartment” feels overwhelming.
Try: Pick up 5 things off the floor. Walk away.
→ “Launch the thing” is a trap.
Try: Open the Google Doc. Add a name. Close it.
Progress doesn’t start with motivation.
It starts with lowering the bar enough to begin.
2. CHANGE THE CHANNEL
Sometimes the block isn’t mental. It’s sensory.
You’ve been sitting in the same spot, breathing stale air, scrolling Slack threads.
Your brain is quietly staging a protest.
→ Change locations. Work from a café. Or your bed. Or the floor.
→ Change your sound. No music → music. Or try brown noise, a vibey playlist, or silence.
→ Change your body. Shake. Stretch. Get up and walk to the mailbox like it’s a mission.
Don’t ask your brain to perform in a stale environment.
Your space is your system.
3. ADD A BIT OF RIDICULOUS
This one’s weird. But it works.
We take everything soooo seriously.
Deadlines. Deliverables. Discipline.
Even ‘devotion’ gets co-opted from time to time!
But joy is fuel. And sometimes your brain just needs a little *spark. *
→ Rename your to-do list something silly. Mine’s called “Let’s cause some rebellious chaos.”
→ Light a candle and pretend you’re a French poet.
→ Use a pink pen. Wear something silly. Make the vibe different.
Whatever breaks the mental loop.
Productivity isn’t just about finishing.
It’s about reconnecting to aliveness.
4. ALIGN IT OR DITCH IT
If something is chronically draining you… maybe it’s not meant for you.
If you’ve avoided it for 3 weeks, maybe it’s not resistance. Maybe it’s wisdom.
→ Ask: Does this actually move the needle on what I care about?
→ Ask: Am I doing this because I want to… or because I think I should?
You can’t build a meaningful life doing things that deaden you.
You don’t need permission to change direction.
Just honesty.
TLDR:
You’re not a robot.
You’re not behind.
You’re not a productivity failure.
You’re just human.
Which means your process gets to be messy, intuitive, and real.
And sometimes, that’s the most resilient thing you can be.
Con mucho amor,
Tanyette
P.S. Have a blessed holiday weekend!
