The 4 Types of Luck

and How to Put Yourself in the Position to Get “Lucky”

Hey Regal Resilience Family,

When we think of "luck," we often picture a random stroke of good fortune—a surprise windfall, a partnership falling into our lap, an unexpected breakthrough. But what if I told you that luck isn't just about chance? What if it’s something you can actively create?

I’ve heard many times over the years that someone’s “lucky break” or “overnight success” is really the result of 5-10 hard years of work in the shadows.

With that on my mind lately, I’ve been reflecting on something Naval Ravikant, one of my favorite thinkers and entrepreneurs, shares about the different types of luck.

And let me tell you, these hit deep. When I revisit his ‘4 types of luck’ it reopened my eyes to the infinite ways that success can happen – and how it is not just a mixture of ‘right time, right place’ or randomness, but also involves setting ourselves up for success.

It made me rethink how we, as conscious entrepreneurs, can put ourselves in the right position to be lucky.

1. Blind Luck: The “It Just Happened” Kind

This is the kind of luck we all dream about—when things fall into place, seemingly out of nowhere. But here’s the thing: it often feels like luck is random, but the more open and receptive we are to possibilities, the more likely we are to stumble into this type of fortune.

This isn’t something you can control, but you can make yourself available to it. Are you showing up in spaces where “lucky” things can happen? Are you networking, putting yourself out there, trying new things, even if it’s scary? That's where blind luck tends to show up—when you least expect it, but you’re present enough to catch it.

2. Luck from Hustling: The “Keep Moving” Luck

This one’s close to my heart because it’s the luck that comes from consistent effort. It’s about showing up day after day, even when things aren’t perfectly lined up. When you keep moving, even in the face of uncertainty, the universe tends to reward persistence.

Think about it: the more people you meet, the more risks you take, the more things you try—you’re increasing your chances of getting that one big break. Luck doesn’t just favor the gifted; it favors those who keep going.

3. Luck from Preparation: The “I Was Ready” Luck

This one’s huge for me as an entrepreneur. It’s about becoming so skilled, so prepared, that when an opportunity presents itself, you’re ready to jump in.

It’s not just about waiting for the perfect moment; it’s about actively honing your skills, deepening your knowledge, and building the confidence to seize opportunities. When you’re ready, luck no longer feels like a mystery—it’s a natural result of your preparation.

Are you learning the right things to put yourself in a position to take advantage of opportunities? Are you cultivating the expertise that will make you stand out? Because when you’re prepared, luck tends to find you.

4. Luck from Your Character: The “Authentic Magnet” Luck

This one is my favorite. It’s the type of luck that’s less about external circumstances and more about who you are. When you’re aligned with your true self—when you show up authentically, when you operate from integrity—people notice. Opportunities start to flow to you not because you’re chasing them, but because your energy magnetizes them.

When you build your personal brand on a foundation of authenticity, people want to work with you. They want to invest in you. They want to collaborate with you. And THAT is a kind of luck you create simply by being true to yourself.

How to Get “Lucky” in Your Business

Here’s the thing: luck isn’t just about waiting for something magical to happen. It’s about putting yourself in the right place, at the right time, with the right energy.

Here are a few actionable ways to put yourself in a position to create luck:

  • Be Open: Stay curious, say yes to new experiences, and keep an open heart to what’s possible.

  • Stay Consistent: Keep showing up. Even when it feels like things aren’t working, keep going.

  • Prepare for the Big Moments: Keep learning, keep growing, keep evolving your skillset.

  • Be Your True Self: Build your business on authenticity. People are drawn to realness, and luck will follow.

This Week’s Mantra:

"I am open to the unexpected. I trust that luck favors the bold, and I am ready to embrace every opportunity that comes my way."
